In his arrogance, the demon caused disruptions in the heavens and on Earth. Hiranyakashipiu was unable to be killed or harmed by any means. Hiranyakashipiu was particularly powerful because he received a boon, or magic power, from Brahma that made him invincible. Narasimha defeated another powerful demon called Hiranyakashipiu. Narasimha, the lion, is Vishnu’s fourth avatar. Sita, wife of Rama, and Rukmini, wife of Krishna, are both avatars of Lakshmi. Hindus commonly worship her and have her images in their homes.
